Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street.
First appearing in a Penny Dreadful article, Todd is portrayed as a barber who murders his customers and turns their remains into meat pies. Todd's barber shop is situated in Fleet Street, London. Todd dispatches his victims by pulling a lever while they are in his barber chair, which makes them fall backward down a revolving trapdoor, generally causing them to break their necks or skulls. In the event they are alive, he goes to the basement and "polishes them off" by slitting the victim's throat with his straight razor (Swebillius). |
Mrs. Lovett was Sweeney Todd's partner in crime. She was the person who would take the remains of the human flesh and turn them into meat pies. She would then sell her pies at her bakery shop. Surprisingly, the people loved her pies. But Todd couldn't deal with her cries, so he threw her in a furnace. |
Oliver Twist
Charles Dickens is mainly popular due to his A Christmas Carol, but Dickens also wrote a couple of unromantic novels. One including Oliver Twist. The main criminal in this novel would be the character, Fagin. In Dickens' novel, Fagin was sentenced to death for his many crimes, most of them consisting of pick-pocketing (Mohr). |
